The AOU-Bahrain campus in A’Ali has successfully implemented a high-performance, multi-service network infrastructure utilizing fiber optic cables and Cat6a cabling. This setup features redundant core and edge switches, ensuring a network that is highly redundant, scalable, cohesive, convergent, and cost-effective for IP-based communication. The network is engineered to support high availability, fault tolerance, and efficient handling of voice, data, and video traffic, aligning with the needs of all AOU stakeholders and reinforcing the university’s strategic vision and mission.
AOU-Bahrain encompasses five levels: Basement, Ground Floor, First Floor, Second Floor, and Third Floor. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art computer labs, LRC computers, language labs, and heavy-duty multifunction printers/copiers/scanners. It also supports a range of computer software, electronic data storage, and external system access.
Technical Services Provided:
- Network Uptime: Maintaining network availability at 99.99% through redundant and resilient design.
- E-Support Help Desk: Deployed to serve all AOU stakeholders, providing 24/7 email support and on-site help desk coverage from 8 AM to 6 PM.
- Training and Documentation: Comprehensive induction, training programs, workshops, and detailed manuals for all IT systems and services.
- Event Support: Technical support for AOU events, video conferencing, online examinations, placement tests, etc.
- Data Security: Implementation of multi-layered security protocols to ensure data privacy and protection.
- Business Continuity: Established a robust business continuity and disaster recovery plan, including risk assessment, backup strategies, and restore procedures to safeguard data for full-time (Academic/Admin) staff.
- Smart Printing Solution: Rolled out a smart print/copy/scan solution utilizing proximity card authentication for full-time (Academic/Admin) staff, ensuring secure document handling and direct scanning to personal network folders.
- Secure Network Shares: Configured secure network share folders for full-time (Academic/Admin) committees and departments to facilitate authorized data exchange.
- Account Management: Support for network account creation, password resets, and connectivity issues for students and staff.
- Policy Enforcement: Implementation and adherence to AOU IT policies, rules, and regulations as directed by HQ guidelines.
