Arab Open University was established in the Arab world as a not-for-profit development project at the initiative of the late HRH Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. In 1996, Prince Talal announced his initiative to establish an Arab Open University as a non-conventional academic entity, and as an institution that contributes to humanity in sharing knowledge in the scientific, social and cultural fields.
This initiative was soon developed into an integrated Arab Open University
in 2002, aims to support Arab communities with quality education with affordable tuition fees, which is accessible to all regardless of gender, colour, race, economic, social, conditions and/or physical and temporal distances.
It is worth noting that AOU was launched with strategic partnership with The Open University in the United Kingdom. The AOU headquarters is located in the state of Kuwait.
