Arab Open University Approves Results of Over 29,000 Students Across Arab Branches
The Arab Open University (AOU) has officially approved the first semester results for more than 29,192 students across all its branches in the Arab world, concluding a four-day evaluation process held in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The results approval was conducted in the presence of representatives from AOU branches, the university's strategic partner—the Open University in the United Kingdom—and external examiners from several British institutions.
This rigorous process underscores AOU's unwavering commitment to ensuring accuracy, transparency, and international quality standards in student assessment. According to Prof. Dr. Nayef Al-Mutairi, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, the results approval process is a vital pillar in safeguarding academic integrity and is systematically carried out at the end of each semester. “The university is committed to ensuring the accuracy of assessments and transparency in grade recording," Dr. Al-Mutairi stated. He explained that course-specific exam committees, composed of academic supervisors, oversee the entire evaluation process. Random samples of exams from every branch are thoroughly audited to ensure they meet international standards.
Dr. Al-Mutairi also emphasized the depth of AOU's partnership with the UK Open University, noting that graduates are awarded dual degrees—locally accredited and British-certified—enhancing their opportunities for postgraduate studies and global employment. “Unlike other institutions that merely follow approved curricula, AOU stands out by awarding a UK-recognized degree to all eligible students, citizens and non-citizens alike," he said.
He noted that the correction process is overseen by external examiners who play a direct role in designing, reviewing, and approving exam materials, thereby ensuring consistency and fairness. Additionally, students are granted the right to appeal results for a full week after their release, with a specialized committee reviewing these appeals. In some cases, appeals may be escalated to the UK Open University for final arbitration, reinforcing the system's transparency and credibility. The system also supports academic mobility, enabling students to transfer between branches with ease, which enhances the flexibility of the educational journey and reflects the university's academic integration across the Arab world.
Dr. Najma Taqi, President of AOU in the Kingdom of Bahrain, affirmed that grade approval is a well-established and carefully structured process at the university. “We are committed to fairness and transparency in evaluating student performance," she said. “Samples of student work across various academic levels are selected and assessed by qualified external examiners to ensure objective and consistent grading."
She confirmed that the procedures for grade review and appeals were carried out smoothly and effectively. Students were offered the opportunity to request reevaluation, and all appeals were subjected to thorough reassessment by specialized academic committees.
Both Dr. Al-Mutairi and Dr. Taqi emphasized that this rigorous, multilayered system has helped solidify the Arab Open University's reputation both locally and internationally, enhancing confidence among students, parents, and accreditation bodies. The university's active participation in national educational committees also affirms its role as a leading institution committed to delivering high-quality, globally recognized higher education across the Arab region.
