Arab Open University Inaugurates The American Corner for Cultural Exchange and Entrepreneurship
Arab Open University of Bahrain celebrated the inauguration ceremony of the American Corner at the University campus, which aims to enhance cultural knowledge exchange and entrepreneurship. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Diana Al-Jahromi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Higher Education Council, Mr. Steven Bondy, Ambassador of the United States of America in The Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as a number of HEC affiliates, academics, diplomats and representatives of the business sector in The Kingdom of Bahrain.
In the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Diana Al-Jahromi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Higher Education Council delivered a speech commending the qualitative partnerships conducted by the institutions of Higher Education in Bahrain to prepare a generation of youth qualified for the challenges of this age, by providing them with the necessary skills, and by empowering them with the capacities to succeed in the labour market; to ultimately contribute to Bahrain's sustainable development.
From his side, United States Ambassador Mr. Steven Bondy, expressed his gratitude for the inauguration of the American Corner and stressed the importance of cooperation between the U.S. Embassy and Open Arab University in various fields. He views The American Corner as a symbol of the partnership between the United States of America and the Kingdom of Bahrain and is confident that it will contribute to fostering cultural exchange between the two friendly countries and provide new opportunities for Bahraini youth to learn and develop.
Furthermore, Prof. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Zakari, AOU President delivered a speech thanking the Higher Education Council for its support to the plans and programmes of Arab Open University in The Kingdom of Bahrain, commending all efforts that had contributed to the establishment of the American Corner, particularly the Embassy of the United States of America of Bahrain.
Dr. Ghurmallah bin Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, AOU President, Kingdom of Bahrain, delivered a speech explaining the idea of establishing The American Corner and the efforts to realize the first idea and to make its emergence into light. It is worth noting that The American Corner aims to focus on cultural knowledge exchange, employment skills and, ultimately, entrepreneurship.
The ceremony was concluded with a tour throughout The American Corner, where the audience was briefed on the various sections of the Corner, its programs and activities that it will offer and present.
