In The Presence of Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, the Bangladeshi Embassy Organizes the International Mother Language Day at Arab Open University
The Bangladeshi Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain organized a celebration of the International Mother Language Day, which is held on February 21 of each year, at Arab Open University, in the presence of Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, the Secretary-General of the Higher Education Council, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Higher Education Council, and Dr. Mohammad Nazrul Islam The Ambassador of the Republic of Bangladesh to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr. GhurmAllah bin Abdallah Al-Ghamdi, President of Arab Open University, and a number of invitees as well as correspondents of public media.
In his turn, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bangladesh said: “The International Mother Language Day is celebrated in several locations in the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to enhance awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity as well as multilingualism, and to clarify diversity and cultural richness, and thanks to prior efforts we were able to cooperate with more than 45 public and private schools for the participation of students with their artistic paintings that reflect the essence of this Day, in addition to designing many traditional dances and presenting them by students as well”.
He further added, “Arab Open University was chosen to host this event because of its convenient location for all schools in the area, as well as the integrated educational facilities that make it easier for us to implement the event with ease.”
“I am glad that Arab Open University is chosen as the place for this event, as there are many roles that the University seeks to provide, including education, scientific research and community service, and what we saw today is part of the community services provided by the University. We would always welcome such cooperation that aims to serve a segment of society; to deliver specific messages aimed at social cohesion and the inclusion of other cultures”, President of Arab Open University reflected.
It is worth noting that the idea of celebrating International Mother Language Day came as an initiative from the Republic of Bangladesh. It was approved by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1999 to begin celebrating this Day around the world since 2000, taking place on February 21 of every year, in order to promote peace and multilingualism all over the world and to protect all mother tongues.
