His Excellency Mr. Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour, stressed the importance of incorporating joint national efforts to align education outcomes with current and future labour market needs. He also emphasized the role of student advising in enabling them to select the best programmes to acquire the professional skills required in the labour market to ensure their employment in private sector enterprises.
The statement by His Excellency the Minister of Labour was delivered at the opening of the "Career Day Exhibition" organized by Open Arab University for its students, in the presence of Mr. Ali Abdul Hussein Al-Asfour, Governor of the Northern Governorate, and Dr. Hisham El-Tahawi, AOU Assistant President for Academic and Scientific Affairs, AOU administrative and Academic staff members, in addition to a number of Ministry officials, and with the participation of many private sector enterprises and companies that presented several types of jobs along with the skills required of their occupants in order to familiarize them with the patterns of new jobs in the labour market.
The Career Day Exhibition aims to introduce university students and graduates to the types of occupational sectors that are commensurate with their specializations, and also to present employers' need for qualified competencies pertaining to available jobs, and to guide students on the best ways to apply for available jobs, including the preparation of curricula vitae and to get training in order to successfully pass job interviews.
Minister Hamidan commended Arab Open University's keenness to hold this annual exhibition, which serves to guide students' choices towards the required occupations in the labour market, highlighting the importance of enhancing students' professional skills in order to achieve their future career aspirations.
In this regard, the Minister stressed that the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain has launched several initiatives to make Bahrain the first choice in the labour market, noting the joint cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and the Labour Fund and the Quality Assurance Authority as well as the Higher Education Council to make the outputs of educational and training institutions meet the needs of employers.
His Excellency toured the pavilions of the participants in the exhibition. He also reviewed the graduation projects of a number of university students and the mechanisms for their application and adoption by companies and institutions related to academic disciplines.
Dr. El-Tahawi stressed that Arab Open University, Kingdom of Bahrain, is keen to hold The Career Day Exhibition, with the aim to inform students of the job opportunities offered by the labour market to graduates. He also emphasized the role of academic educational institutions in preparing and qualifying their students for various jobs and specializations in the labour market. Last but not least, Dr. El-Tahawi thanked the Ministry of Labour for cooperating with the University in promoting the fields of vocational guidance for students and introducing them to employment opportunities offered by the private sector to university graduates.
