This lecture was presented by the graduate, Mr. Osama Al-Fayez - a specialist in Cyber security, and the legal researcher, Ms. Rayana Al-Hassan, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 10 am, on campus.
The lecture aimed to educate participants about the concept of cybercrime, its types, and its danger to society. As the spread of cybercrime leads to many risks and threats, including: prejudice and threat to the economy and national security, prejudice to family relations and the formation of disputes between family members, which leads to family disintegration, due to the many results caused by some types of cybercrime, such as defamation of some individuals and spreading false news and rumors.
Al-Fayez noted that cybercrime has become widespread because of the Internet and its increasing number of users. The Internet is regarded as an open and unlimited world, and it is difficult to place it under censorship or to restrict its use. It is necessary to raise awareness of its dangers to all members of society, especially children, as a targeted group that is more vulnerable to exploitation than others.
In conclusion, the two lecturers provided valuable advice to the participants on freedom of expression through social media, and general tips on preventing cybercrime, and protection from fraud and cyber hacking. They also expressed their deep thanks and appreciation to the administration of Arab Open University, especially the Alumni Club, for their efforts to organize such lectures that contribute to educating students and graduates of the University about cybercrime.
