The Department of Students and Alumni Affairs at Arab Open University, Kingdom of Bahrain, in cooperation with Academic Faculties and administrative Departments, organized a virtual meeting under the title “Let's Get Together”, on March 10, 2022.
A number of representatives from Academic Faculties, the Student Counselling Department, and the Student and Alumni Affairs Department participated in the meeting, which addressed many important themes and issues of particular interest to the students.
Mrs. Nujoom Al-Hakam, a lecturer at the Business Faculty, started the first Theme “Communication Skills in the University Environment”, in which she addressed the concept of communication; its role and elements, communication skills with classmates, and communication skills with Faculty members.
Then Dr. Ahmed Kenanah, lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology, addressed the second Theme “Scientific Research Ethics in Exam and Assignment Writing”, where he introduced the assessment method used by the University in assignments and exams. He also presented the most important techniques to be followed to avoid high percentages of similarity when writing assignments and exams. He finally proposed the best writing techniques for building up good research papers, namely citation and referencing.
Dr. Wahiba Al-Sayed Saeed Alawi, Head of the Student Counseling Unit, addressed the third Theme “Students Discipline on Campus”, where she reviewed and explained the terms of the Student’s Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures at the University, with a focus on the rights and duties of students.
As the last Theme, Ms. Tanaji Omar, Head of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Department, addressed the “University Bylaws and Regulations”, asserting that students need to get familiar with them. She noted that any student can simply get access to them by visiting the University’s main website, the Learning Resources Department website, or by contacting the concerned Departments.
The meeting included a number of constructive contributions from the participating students. At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Eman Reda, Head of Students and Alumni Affairs, thanked the representatives and students who participated in this fruitful meeting.
