I was born in the Far East of Russia and spent 29 years of my life there. Coming from a military man's family (my father is a retired Colonel), I spent my childhood and teenage years moving around (in Russia, Ukraine and Germany) which made me change 5 schools and 2 Universities. It was a challenging and enriching experience.
I have always been interested in languages (kept learning this or that foreign language) and eventually decided to connect my life with Linguistics. I achieved a recognized Teaching qualification and PhD in Philology (English and Russian Languages & Literature) at a reputed Teachers' Training University in Russia. While doing my PhD studies, I worked as a lecturer at the University of Humanities in Russia. My professional interests mainly lie in the field of Functional/ Communicative Linguistics, but I also explore the world of psychology and classical literature (as a hobby).
After getting married I left my beloved country for the Middle East and have lived in Bahrain for almost 17 years, and this hospitable country has become my second home. I live here with my husband and two children.
In Bahrain, my professional path had an unusual curve when I got hired by a multidisciplinary consultancy (QSE Department) and obtained a qualification in Quality Management. I returned to teaching after getting CELTA and starting working as an English Instructor at the American Cultural and Educational Centre. After a few years, I joined the AOU family.
In addition to Sociolinguistics which I have been teaching for a few years now, my teaching experience at the AOU also includes such courses as Research Writing, Reading, Language and Creativity, General English.
Previous experience: specialized English for Hospitality staff, for students studying Law, International Tourism and Regional Politics.
In teaching, I have always tried to use differentiated methods and an individualized approach and now - making use of virtual techniques and platforms. Working in a multilingual environment and dealing with multinational contingent for many years, I have learnt to use this knowledge and skills for more effective teaching.
