As part of a series of monthly research exchange seminars held by university scientific research council virtually through Microsoft Teams and in coordination with the FLS. Professor Ghada Abdel Hafeez, dean of FLS, and Dr. Meryem Fati, Assistant Professor of linguistics, delivered two presentations in seminar for March, which was held on Thursday 3/25/2021 in the presence of the director and University faculty members.
Prof. Ghada ‘s presentation is titled “Counter-conduct and Persistence in Selected Works by Egyptian Women Writers”. This presentation aims at analyzing the concepts of counter-conduct and persistence in the writings of Latifa al-Zayyat (1923-1996), Nawal el Saadawi (1993), and Salwa Bakr (1949) who have strived to conceptualize a language capable of articulating women’s injuries, needs, persistence and perseverance. The presentation draws on Michel Foucault notion of “counter-conduct.” And Judith Butler’s concepts of “persistence,” “livability,” and “precarious lives. The presentation concludes that the modes of counter-conduct and persistence in the selected literary texts take multiple modes to correspond to the multiple forms of power that conducts them.
