Arab Open University partnered with the American Embassy to organize the Cultural Overview Event, on campus, on its Open Day. The event included a range of activities involving a number of guests and speakers who shared their experiences pertinent to cultural diversity with participants and attendees.
On this occasion, the President of AOU, Bahrain, Dr. Ghurmallah bin Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, expressed his pride and pleasure in cooperating with the United States Embassy at launching the first joint event between the Embassy and AOU, which aims at conveying the diverse cultures of both the East and the West, with representatives who spoke different languages and discussed various cultural topics.
Dr. Hisham Al-Tahawi, Assistant President of the University for Administrative and Financial Affairs, explained that the Cultural Diversity (at the American Corner) is the first event in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy, to serve and entertain members of both communities; introducing many skills and topics such as employment skills, women's empowerment, entrepreneurship along with cultural diversity and knowledge exchange.
Dr. Al-Tahawi also emphasized the role of these initiatives in assisting students as well as the Academic and Administrative staff members along with the Bahraini community in general—ultimately to support all in many different areas through cultural integration that is also believed to enhance the educational and cultural outcomes.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Tahawi explained that the event was meant to include a number of works that would reflect the diverse cultures in the Kingdom of Bahrain, such as paintings and other artistic works. He also highlighted the University's endeavor to cooperate with a number of embassies in the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to revive cultural connections and knowledge exchange under the same roof.
