on Creating Civically Engaged Classrooms Delivered by Dr. Ghada Abdel Hafeez at APG School
In its efforts to bridge the gap between academia and community, the Faculty of Language Studies (FLS) at Arab Open University-Bahrain, in collaboration with the Training, Continuous Education and Community Service Center, is holding a series of outreach workshops for teachers and other stake holders.
In this context, Prof. Ghada Abdel Hafeez, FLS local dean, delivered a workshop to the Arabian Pearl Gulf school teachers titled “Creating Civically Engaged Classrooms” on 29th of August 2023. The workshop was attended by Dr. Ahmed Fathy Somida, Middle and High School principal, Ms. Iqbaal Nawaf, Elementary School Principal, along with around 55 teachers. Issues related to civic education, civic engagement, the different ways to achieve the students’ engagement in the classrooms, and finally the challenges that teachers face when implementing civic engagement in their classes were discussed.
It was an informative and delightful workshop. At the end, the attendees confirmed that it has added a lot to their knowledge and skills on how to prepare their students for their active roles as citizens who should play an active role in their communities’ common good.
